WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT ACTS :
What is God doing? Establishing his church for all ages to come, preparing his disciples and establishing their mission, correcting their expectation, sending the Holy Spirit, revealing the Holy Trinity in the church, sending messengers; What are people doing (sometimes at odds with God)? staying put and getting prepared, waiting for the Spirit's time, learning patience and faith, praying together as men and women in community -- coming out to listen, questioning, forgetting what scripture teaches, but they learned from the apostles and began a fellowship of believers, having conversation, sharing fellowship, What lessons are here for the church? We must study, learn, share, and pray for our church, for each other, and for our mission. We take direction from God -- waiting, praying, trusting in God; When bearing witness to Jesus, start where you are and move outward. We should witness to others by sharing what Jesus means to us, share our material blessings and be grateful and humble. Our timing is not God's timing. We need to be patient and pray for God's direction and spread the Word of Jesus. Give more attention to the work of the Holy Spirit. God is God and we're not. The church should change me to be like Jesus, but often I want to change the church to please me. Trust in God. God uses ordinary people to accomplish the mission. PRAY and expect God to act. What is this telling us about a possible vision purpose for our ministry? We must overcome those things that divide us and get on with what we have said in our mission statement. Be led by the Spirit in prayer; be together; expect the Spirit to work; form community around Jesus; continue to worship; reflect on the teaching of Jesus; fear and love God; Be like Jesus; see ourselves as those who give worship to God with our lives rather than those who consume services to our liking. How can we help people experience the reality of God so that he is real to them? What can we do to make Church significant so that people want to be part of it? |
